Welcome to Bob Nybakken Music |
Bob Nybakken is a graduate of the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago Illinois, earning degrees in piano performance and music composition. The piano he is playing is his own instrument; a Steinway model "D" nine-foot concert grand, built in 1903 (serial number 109151). The piano is over one hundred years old and still has a marvelous tone.
Within this recording, Bob has crafted variations on Baroque themes- ancient chorales of the church. He has also revisited several of his own compositions from the past, each with its unique character. Finally, he presents several tracks of pure improvisation, complex tapestries of themes & variations, which are ripe with counterpoint. The improvisations are often like eloquent statements of life's situations in music, where they mirror the emotions of this worldly experience. At times they hint of the grandiose majesty of the heavens to come, as airy inquisitive passages are answered with dynamic & majestic revelations. What is so special about this recording, is that throughout, Bob's music was performed spontaneously (improvised). It's without deliberation or rehearsal, & with no studio editing (the way you hear it is the way it was captured). Bob would be the first to admit that it would be impossible for him to play it exactly the same way again.
